Kokle Group Balti is one of the most popular kokleist groups in Latvia and another guest of our festival. The band from the Babit region will present various arrangements of folk songs and dance melodies taken from the ancient culture of the Balt people.
Kokle is the most characteristic Latvian string instrument. The instrument’s delicate, silvery sound exudes particular brightness. The oldest traditions of play are associated with it, as the mythological Sun and God were often depicted playing in a basket. Its history in the Baltic countries has a great and long tradition. Kokle is an outstanding symbol of the musical heritage and song spirit of nations.
BALTI appreciates the great depth of Latvian traditions as well as contemporary musical expression, they also perform classical pieces, original music by contemporary composers, vocal and instrumental compositions.
